Who is Universal Kempo Karate?
Mike Gowans CEO and Founder MartialArtsGrowth.com About Page for MAG
Our objectives are to:

       1.  Teach Self Defense
       2.  Improve physical conditioning
       3.  Improve self-discipline, moral
             character, humility, and
             self esteem
       4. To contribute the prosperity and
             improvement of each other by
             developing closer relationships

Universal Kempo Karate has the unique ability to help students and parents identify objectives prior to beginning their martial arts journey to Black Belt. Universal is able to modify and adjust its curriculum to the student’s needs rather than the student having to adapt to the curriculum. In essence, we use the student’s interest in the martial arts as “a vehicle” to transport them closer to their destination both in and out of Kempo-Karate.

Without philosophy, martial arts would be little more than street fighting.  At Universal Kempo Karate, we teach and emphasize a series of life skills that challenge our students throughout not only their Martial Arts training, but also with their everyday lives.

We are experts at ensuring that each student is exposed to the following things and learns from each lesson
       - Learning and doing their best in school
       - Learn to pay attention
       - Learn to cooperate with others
       - Learn to have good manners
       - Learn about discipline
       - Learn about being respectful and polite
       - Having positive self-esteem
       - Learn about physical fitness
       - Learn about Kempo Karate techniques
       - Having fun

Our goal is not just to turn our children into Black Belts, but to teach them the life lessons mentioned above. Junior, Teenage, and Young adult students are taught to set achievable goals and that hard work does have its rewards. Through the Martial Arts they become more confident and develop an attitude of self-reliance. This increase in confidence enables them to better cope with issues of peer pressure and helps them make correct choices. Making our students to be more successful in life through the practice of the Martial Arts is our objective. Our primary philosophies are embodied in our Objectives, Student Creed Student, Code of Ethics and Principles of Black Belt.

Professor Garland R. Johnson (shown above) opened the first branch of Universal Kempo Karate School on the Mainland right here in Colorado Springs, Colorado on September 17, 1980.

Universal Kempo Karate has grown from 1 location to now 16 locations that blanket the local area known as the Pikes Peak Region.
